Shopping
In the centre of Flushing the shopping centre Scheldeplein with its multi story car park was realized in 1992. It is located near the shopping mall of the city centre, which is partly covered. The majority of shops, which are not situated in the arcade, have awnings. These features guarantee dry shopping all year round.
The shopping centre is in the northern part of the city and can be reached very easily by car, public transport or on bicycle. Neighbouring streets also have numerous shops. Shops are generally closed on Monday mornings and close at 6 p.m. during weekdays. On Saturday shops close at 5 p.m.
Late night and Sunday shopping
Most shops in the city centre are open until 9 p.m. on Fridays. In the village of Oost-Souburg late night shopping is on Thursdays. Furthermore shops in the town centre of Flushing are open from 1 to 5 p.m. on every last Sunday of each month.
Markets and Fairs
Every Friday there’s a lot of hustle and bustle on the market in Coosje Buskenstraat and in Scheldeplein. There are stalls selling fish, herbs and spices, flowers, household goods, fabrics etcetera. The market starts early and lasts until the end of the afternoon.
Next to the weekly Friday market there is an additional Saturday market in Scheldeplein. No household goods in this instance but only fresh products are sold, varying from fish to flowers. Other busy events are the Ruyter Annual Market in Scheldeplein (Friday before Whit sun), the Midsummer Night’s Market (First Friday in August) and the Karolingen Market (in spring and autumn in Oost-Souburg).
